Project Updates

During the consultation sessions held in November 2024, we indicated that we would hold a second series of consultation
events in Summer 2025, with the goal of sharing more information on the proposed locations, number, height and setback distances of the turbines.

However, as the series of environmental surveys that the project team need to complete ahead of the next phase is still ongoing, the second series of consultation events will not be held until 2026.

We understand the importance of these consultation events and appreciate the communities understanding as we complete the necessary surveys over the coming months.

In due course, we will bring forward a draft layout to the local community for consultation and feedback. This layout will be distributed to residential properties within 2km of the boundary of the project site. Following the completion of this distribution, we intend to hold a series of consultation events in the same locations as November 2024 (Ahascragh, Ballyforan and Ballygar), subject
to venue availability.

A series of Community Engagement Sessions are planned for November 2024 for members of the public to discuss the proposed wind farm with the project team.

Earlier this year, Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables, two leading low-carbon energy providers, announced their formation of a joint venture to develop a series of onshore wind energy projects. This partnership will deliver up to 800MW of new renewable energy generation for Ireland.

As part of this joint venture, Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables are proposing to develop a wind farm on Derryfadda, Boughill and Gowla Bogs located in County Galway, along the border with County Roscommon. The proposed wind farm will be known as Derryfadda Wind Farm. As the project is at a very early stage, the proposed number, location and height of turbines have not yet been determined.

The joint venture partnership is fully committed to informing and engaging with you through an active communication programme. As part of this, we have appointed a Community Engagement and Stakeholder Team including a designated Community Liaison Officer, Shane (087-0665640), to engage with local communities and residents. At this stage of the project, we are seeking feedback from the community on the proposed intention to develop a wind farm on these bogs.

Public Events

There are no upcoming public events scheduled. We wish to thank everyone who attended the series of Community Engagement Sessions in November 2024 in Ballyforan, Ballygar and Ahascragh.
